Today is July 20th, 2020. My name is Luc.

If you have been following us on Instagram or read my first diary about this road trip, then you know my wife and I have been on this road trip that I can only refer to as a road trip of a lifetime.

It’s 11:30 in the morning. We’re currently in a small town in Utah called “Moab”.

How we got here?

If you have not read my first diary, please do it before reading more. It’ll explain how the road trip got started and go into more detail about the first couple of weeks of our travel.

In the last diary, I wrote this: “Now, we’re thinking about going to Las Vegas for a week (in two weeks), then drive to Utah to visit 2 more national parks”.

I wrote this on June 29th. Since then our plans have changed multiple times.

As of three days ago (Friday morning), our plan was to drive from LA, (through Death Valley national park) to Las Vegas, and spend the night there.

Then we were gonna spend one night in Zion National park, then one night in the Grand Canyon, then spend the week in Bryce Canyon National park.

When we woke up on Saturday morning, we realized a big part of Zion National Park was closed because of Covid-19. So, we improvised.

On Saturday, we drove through Zion National park (and made a few stops) to get to the Grand Canyon around 5pm. We spent a couple of hours in the Grand Canyon (and took some amazing pics), then we drove 5 hours to a town near Bryce Canyon national park.

On Sunday, we drove to and through Bryce Canyon, then we visited Capitol Reef, on our way to Moab, where we are today.

To recap, in less than three days, we drove about 1900km, and visited/stopped by 5 national parks.

Where we’re going next?

For now, we’re in Moab, Utah for the next 5 days at least.

Then our plan is to start slowly making our way back to Virginia with a few stops along the way.

After Moab, as of today (July 20th), the plan is to go to Colorado and visit two or three national parks there. But as you have seen this road trip is flexible. #StayTuned, we’ll keep posted on where we go/are next. 🙂

P.S.:

Even before this road trip is over, Valva is already thinking about the next (possible) one.

On Saturday morning, she comes to me and says:

“Hey baby. I was thinking, when we get home, we could spend maybe two weeks at home and maybe drive up the east coast all the way up to Maine. We could visit some of the national parks on the east coast. What do you think?”

I’m guessing we’re driving up to Maine at some point when we get back to Virginia…

Today is June 27th, 2020, my name is Luc and I’m currently on the 7th day of what I would describe as the road trip of a lifetime with my wife, Valva.

How it all started

About a month ago my amazing, crazy wife came to me with the idea of going to Yellowstone for her vacation.

I’m calling it her vacation because I am a web developer. I can work from anywhere. All I need is a laptop and a decent wifi connection.

We had been to Yellowstone the previous year, I absolutely loved it so I was all in with the idea of going back. My answer to her was a resounding: ‘f*** yeah’…

Then on second thoughts, I realized there was this pandemic going around called COVID-19.

So it was evident it wouldn’t be safe to fly, so I asked her:
‘How would we get to Yellowstone?’, to which she answered: ‘We can drive’.
‘So how long is the drive to Yellowstone?’, she smirked at me and said: ‘Just 32 hours’

Without hesitation I said: ‘Let’s freaking do it!’.

We made plans for a two weeks vacation to Yellowstone, and then back to Virginia.

The plan was simple, we would make a few stops along the way, so we wouldn’t have to drive 32 hours straight back and forth.

The day before leaving, she comes to me again, with an even crazier idea, and this is how this second conversation went:

Valva: ‘Baby, I just realized I don’t need to go to the office to work because of COVID-19’

Luc: ‘OK, so…?’.

Valva: ‘So I don’t need to be out for just two weeks, I can take my laptop and work from anywhere. We could then go to Yosemite also, and then visit my friend in LA for a week maybe, then Grand Canyon for a weekend, and then spend a week in New Orleans’

My eyes lid up with excitement and joy at the idea of an adventure of unknown length on the road with her.

So, we packed up our stuff and embarked on this crazy adventure with seemingly no end in sight.

Where we are now

We currently are in Crater Lake National Park, in Oregon. The picture above is a picture of a mountain peak we took today in the national park.

Thus far on this road trip, we’ve driven about 4700km, we’ve driven by/visited 12 states, and we visited 5 National Parks in the US, and we’re not quite sure where we’re going next.

Picture that shows a brief summary of what we have done up to June 29th, 2020, on our road trip around the USA.

We have vague plans of slowly making it down to Yosemite, then LA, then Grand Canyon, then New Orleans but none of this is set in stone. Each one of our itineraries is up for change.

Major Update

So, I wrote the first part of this article/diary yesterday (June 27th). Today is Monday, June 29th and Valva has decided to add a few stops along our way back to Virginia.

Now, we’re thinking about going to Las Vegas for a week (in two weeks), then drive to Utah to visit 2 more national parks, and then, I have absolutely no clue where we’re going.

Anyway. This trip is very fluid/flexible. I have no clue where we’re going next, and I don’t think Valva does either. But we will keep you all updated as we drive around the US.
